2) a shelter against rain and sun
3) a place of recreation for the residents staying where children can play , old people can rest and talk the whole day and week activities.
4) A community centre
5) Even to organized function like wedding, birthday without using any tent.

The building are heritage building - and solid .

They also have pillars outside and this serves as a support for the entire building.

They are normally double storey - the top storey flooring is made of an entire wood.

The wood is solid- some lasted for more than 200 years .

The doors are sometime the traditional Chinese door that you can find in China during olden days.

This idea was copied by Sir Stanford Raffles - and introduced to Singapore.
